THERAPY FOR MEN AND COUPLES • SEATTLE, WA

About Me — Karsten Galyon, LMFTA

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate in Fremont, and I work with men, new dads, and couples. I’m originally from Minnesota, and Washington has become home.

I studied psychology and neuroscience at Hope College, then earned my M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy at Seattle Pacific University. Before and during grad school, I worked with people in sober living, interned with teens, young adults, and families at Sound Mental Health in Redmond, and worked as a school counselor at Einstein Elementary. That mix taught me to look at the whole picture around a person, not just the problem in front of us.

I started this practice because I’m one of the men I want to help. There’s a lot of stigma around therapy for men, and I’ve heard it myself: “I’m the bad guy.” “You’re weak for being emotional.” “It doesn’t work for me.” Messages like that keep men quiet, at a time when a lot of us feel more cut off from each other and from ourselves. I want to offer a place where those ideas can be questioned, and to get curious about what’s actually going on.

I’ve had hard life seasons of my own, and I know how chaotic and full of doubt they can feel. In the room, I’m calm, I’ll laugh with you, and I’ll tell you what I’m noticing. I’m direct with the couples and men I see, because it helps people stop going in circles.

I’m working toward full licensure and am supervised by Scott Edwards, PhD, LMFT.
